HELPFUL BOOK!
I recently decided to go back to school and received this book as a gift. I cannot imagine trying to get through the admissions process or the loan application process without this book. Great information and easy to read.

Recodings: Art, Spectacle, Cultural Politics
Published in Hardcover by Bay Pr (December, 1985)
Author: Hal Foster
Average review score:

Dense but farkeeng oarsum!
Very slippery prose but jam-packed with little (and not so little) epiphanies. A must for any progressive designer trying to see through the bars of designlanguage.

Red Hat RPM Guide
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (01 March, 2003)
Author: Eric Foster-Johnson
Average review score:

Comprehensive rpm guide
Its been a long time since Maximum RPM was written. In the mean time the rpm package tool has grown from a command-line tool and C programming API into much more. Its become the base for many linux distributions, and companies are using it to deploy linux throughout their IT infrastructure.

The parts of redhat's new RPM book that I most appreciated have been the in-depth examination of the modern rpm .spec file, from which packages get built, and the descriptions of the perl and python API's for the rpm interface. Documentation for these areas have been lacking, and this book covers them thoroughly.

This book worked very well as a reference to aide my company's linux deployment.

Speaking only for myself,

-Peter

Ribbin', Jivin', and Playin' the Dozens : The Unrecognized Dilemma of Inner-City Schools
Published in Paperback by HarperBusiness (01 January, 1974)
Author: Herbert L. Foster
Average review score:

Required reading for all teachers in inner-city schools
This book illustrates that there is more than one way to reach a variety of students - One size does not fit all. Students of different races have their own ways of learning & the successful teacher should be able to adapt his/her teaching methods to them. Foster's book gives personal stories from his years of teaching, as well as a great glossary of Black English Words.

Rock Gardening: A Guide to Growing Alpines and Other Wildflowers in the American Garden
Published in Paperback by Timber Pr (October, 1982)
Authors: H. Lincoln Foster and Laura Louise Foster
Average review score:

Down-to-earth, practical advice on gardening
Although this book is titled "Rock Gardening", it has great appeal to all gardeners. It includes introductory information on how to create rock, bog and woodland gardens, how to propagate plants, maintenance, etc. But the best part is the comprehensive plant descriptions, with practical advice on their cultural requirements, difficulty and propagation. Although there are no color pictures, I find this is the book I rely upon most for accurate information on lesser known rock garden and woodland plants.

Science Surprises!: Ready-To-Use Experiments & Activities for Young Learners
Published in Paperback by Center for Applied Research in Education (August, 1995)
Authors: Jean R. Feldman and Rebecca Feldman Foster
Average review score:

Science Surprises by Jean R. Feldman
This book is geared towards early childhood education and does a great job in compiling a variety of activities that are easy to understand, with materials readily available. I teach 100 youngsters (pre-school through senior kindergarten) and they love the activities. There are extensions for all of the projects so that teachers can pursue each project in greater depth. One suggestion for Dr. Feldman would be to increase the amount of information in the "explanation" section at the bottom of each experiment or project. Overall, any teacher of young children will find lots of great stuff in this book.

My opinions
This is the first book I read as a child. I loved it then and now that I am older I have read it again and still adore it. The characters are amazing. Animals that talk, their attitudes all different and in a magical way suit every one. The grand Father with his warmth, and sunlight. This book is only for the humans with imagination. If you have grown up and forgotten what it is like to be young then I would tell you to read this book for the following reason. You will be taken to a place in your mind that you could never even dream of, You will imagin things that you could only have imagined if you were 5 years of age. The author has to have one of the most vivid imaginations in the universe or he did a lot of drugs. This book is and always will be my fav. All I can say is thank you for writting it!

One of the best books ever written.
I first read The Secret Garden many years ago. I loved it then and I still love it now. I believe it is one of the best children's books ever written. It combines fantasy, mystery, and history with a wonderfull plot. No matter how old I am when I read it, or how long it has been since I last read it, I enjoy it imensely. I strongly recomend buying it or borrowing it from your library. The Secret Garden certainly is a true classic.

The Secret Garden

The magic of a fairy tale, yet real enough to believe
To be ten or twelve and reading this is heaven. To have your ten or twelve year old read it, is also heavenly. Read it in winter, and spring will be in your heart before it is through!

The tale of a stubborn child who changes with the help of some unlikely friends to work miracles in a secluded garden: it is a story of healing and adventure, without coming off sappy or silly. Remarkable in its telling, it is timeless in its appeal. For those who might not have read it, The Secret Garden has a "Harry Potter" sort of flavor, with characters that are so well written you might feel you know them. I read it more than once as a child, and as an adult I re-read it every few years.
